18 years of building custom controllers. Here's everything you need to know before you order.
About GeniusModsLabs
GeniusModsLabs has been building custom gaming controllers since 2008 — over 18 years of hands-on experience. We're based in Parsippany, New Jersey, and every controller we sell is hand-built by our team. We don't resell retail stock or use factories. When you order from us, a real person builds your controller from scratch to your exact specs.
Every single controller is hand-built by our team in New Jersey. We start with an authentic PlayStation, Xbox, or PC controller base and mod it to your specifications — installing TMR thumbsticks, clicky triggers, back paddles, custom shells, and more. No assembly lines. No factories. Your build is made by a person who takes pride in their craft.
Great question. Here's the honest comparison:
- Price: SCUF charges $150–$250+ for a custom PS5 controller. We start at $79.
- Build quality: SCUF is factory-made overseas. Our controllers are hand-built in NJ by the same team that's been doing this since 2008.
- TMR Thumbsticks: We use True Magnetic Resistance sensors — they physically cannot develop stick drift. SCUF uses standard potentiometer sticks that wear out over time.
- Customization: You pick your platform, color, mods, and button mappings. We build it exactly to your spec.
- Support: When you contact us, you're talking to the people who built your controller — not a call center.
We're based in Parsippany, NJ. We primarily operate online, but local customers can reach out to us directly via our contact page to arrange drop-off or pick-up for repairs and custom builds.
Products & Mods
TMR stands for True Magnetic Resistance. Standard controller thumbsticks use potentiometers — physical resistors that wear down over time and eventually cause stick drift (your character moves on its own even when you're not touching the stick). TMR sticks use a magnetic sensor with no physical contact, which means there's nothing to wear out. Zero drift. Ever. It's the single best upgrade you can make to any controller.
Clicky Hair Triggers replace your standard analog R2/L2 triggers with digital mouse-click switches. Instead of a long analog pull, you get an instant tactile click with virtually zero travel distance. This means faster inputs — especially important in FPS games like Warzone, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty where milliseconds matter. Many competitive players consider this the most impactful trigger upgrade available.
Back paddles are additional buttons mounted on the rear of the controller that you can map to any input — jump, reload, melee, crouch, etc. The advantage: you never have to lift your thumbs off the analog sticks to press a button. This keeps your aim steady 100% of the time. If you play any competitive shooter or action game, back paddles are a genuine performance upgrade. We offer 2-paddle configurations for PS4 and PS5, with full button mapping options.
We currently build custom controllers for:
- PlayStation 5 (DualSense) — starting at $79
- PlayStation 4 (DualShock 4) — starting at $49
- Xbox One / Series X|S — starting at $49
- Xbox Elite — starting at $99
The Rapid Fire GM Master Mod is our signature programmable rapid-fire chip — capable of up to 30 rounds per second. It's fully programmable and includes a tournament-legal mode. It works across multiple fire modes and can be toggled on/off. This is a mod we've been perfecting for over 18 years.

Repairs
Yes. We offer controller repair services for PlayStation and Xbox controllers. Common repairs include stick drift fixes, trigger repair, button replacement, and charging port repair. Visit our Repair Services page or contact us to describe your issue and get a quote.
Yes — and we can fix it permanently. The standard repair replaces the faulty potentiometer sticks with fresh ones. But if you want a true permanent solution, we can install TMR Thumbsticks during your repair. Since TMR sticks use magnetic sensors instead of physical resistors, they physically cannot develop drift. It's the last thumbstick repair you'll ever need.
- Visit our Repair Services page and select the repair you need
- Complete your order and ship your controller to us (we'll provide the address)
- We'll repair and return it, typically within 3–5 business days of receiving it
- For local customers in the Parsippany, NJ area, drop-off and pick-up is available — contact us to arrange
Warranty & Returns
Yes. All GeniusModsLabs custom builds come with a warranty on our workmanship and installed mods. If something we installed fails under normal use, we'll make it right. Contact us with your order details and we'll get it sorted.
Because every controller is built to your custom specifications, we don't accept returns on completed custom builds unless there is a defect in our workmanship. If your controller arrives with an issue caused by our build process, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we will repair or replace it at no charge. For questions about a specific situation, reach out to us directly.
All orders are packaged carefully to prevent shipping damage. If your order arrives damaged, take photos immediately and contact us within 3 days of delivery. We'll work with you to resolve it as quickly as possible.
General
Hardware mods like TMR thumbsticks, clicky triggers, back paddles, and custom shells are undetectable by game servers — they're physical hardware changes, not software exploits. Our Rapid Fire mod includes a tournament-legal mode. As always, check the specific rules of any tournament you enter. For everyday online play on PSN or Xbox Live, our mods are safe to use.
